My parents came to the United States when I was only a little boy. They moved because they wanted to prepare a way for me and my siblings to have a better life in the U.S. When I got to the U.S., a part of me was not excited to see my parents because it felt strange to see them after so many years. On the other side, I was excited to see the whole new world with so many different ethnicities in the U.S. It was a struggle for me to adjust with the culture and the school, here in the U.S. I was homesick too, for awhile. I hated my life especially my school. My brother and I was bullied and harassed because of our race. We got into so many fights because of our differences in culture and lifestyle from the Philippines compared to the lifestyle in U.S. and that is why we got bullied and picked on at school. I tried to get along with my parents but it didn’t seem to work. The more I tried, the more I got into trouble. It seems trouble was following me everywhere I went. I attracted bad attention because I didn’t feel loved at home. My dad used to abuse me at home. He use to beat me up when things doesn't go according to his ways. From then on, I already knew how it is going to be at home. My family was so broken to the point that I was getting sick and tired of the same routine of my dad beating me up. I started to rebel at home. I felt more loved on the street by hanging out with the gangsters. I found freedom! At one night, my Dad and I got into a huge fight to the point that I left home for good and I've never looked back. I started doing what I can to survive, at the age of 17. I started to make fast money through selling drugs, stealing cars, and home invasions. I did what I had to do in order to survive. I was living from friend’s house to friend’s house until I was old enough to work. Through all that I’ve been through, I still managed to fall in love. I had relationships here in there but nothing too serious. I live in a dark place for 18years. I found a job and started to saved up some money so that I can buy a car and my own place to stay. Furthermore, I met a Christian girl that made an impact in my life. We broke up after three years due to my financial struggle and a lot of disagreement between us which led her to leaving me. I was hurt and depressed and that drove me to go to Calvary Chapel. I felt peace for the moment but ...Expand for more
I still hated my life. I hated the world and I could not trust anyone. Having no diploma equals having a dead end job, so people started to take advantage of me. I ran into some problems with identity theft which gave me a harder time to survive on my own. One day, I met a friend name Musa Tjahjono, who was one of the customers that asked me about my car. As we were having a conversation, it shifted into a church subject, where Musa invited me to his church, JKI Zoe Ministry International in Fullerton, CA. I usually don’t trust anyone especially when it comes down to my personal problems. But for some weird reason, I was able to open up at Zoe and shared all of my burdens right there and then (1 Corinthians 14:24-25). I felt God's presence as they prayed for me. I felt loved again for the first time, relieved, and I felt His peace. I began to be discipled by Pastor Hans and I was hungry and thirsty for the Word of God that pushed me more to seek Him. At one point, in the discipleship, they were talking about forgiveness. Right away, I went back to my parents’ house, after 18 years, and I reconciled with them from the all bitterness and grudges that I have been holding towards them. It turned out that my family has been praying for me ever since I left home which was 18years ago. There were so many times that I could have been dead but the Lord protected me until this very day. I surrendered myself to God completely and I got baptized. During my baptism, my parents asked me for forgiveness in front of the entire Church. It was powerful and a moment that I have been waiting for. I saw that the Lord was faithful in fulfilling His promises over my life. Every day, I thank God for all the blessings that He has given me and I look forward for what God has prepared for me. My testimony reminded me of the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. I was lost and now I’m found (v.32). I truly experienced God’s grace over my life and it drives me to share the good news to the people that are going through what I went through. I thank the Lord Jesus Christ from saving me from myself. -Charles PRIVACY NOTICE: Warning - any person and/or institution and/or Agent and/or Agency of any governmental structure including but not limited to the United States Federal Government also using or monitoring/using this website or any of its associated websites, you do NOT have my permission to utilize any of my profile information nor any of the content contained herein including, but not limited to my photos, and/or the comments made about my photos or any other "picture" art posted on my profile.
